Summer Pool Checklist

Are you and your kids dying to take a dip in your pool? Before you do, get your pool summer ready with our helpful checklist.

1. Skim & Clean Your Pool

Skimming and cleaning your swimming pool should be done regularly to assist with the other maintenance tasks necessary for a clean pool. It’s recommended that you skim your pool daily, to keep any debris, bugs and dirt from building up in the bottom of your pool that could clog your Kreepy Krauly or pool filter.

2. Checking Your Pool Chemicals

One simple, but vital, step in maintaining that bright blue pool is adding pool chemicals to the water, such as chlorine. The chemical makeup of the pool can change often, which means you need to check the chemicals in you pool weekly. The three main chemical levels you’ll want to focus on is pH balance, alkalinity and chlorine. You can do this using HTH testing strips from DIY Depot.

3. Install A Swimming Pool Cover

Installing a swimming pool cover helps keep the debris out of your pool.

4. Shock Your Swimming Pool As Needed

Shocking your pool isn’t needed as often as other pool maintenance tasks, but should be done regularly. This can be done by adding a high amount of chlorine to a pool or using HTH Shock It from DIY Depot. This will kill bacteria that is living in the water. You should shock your pool when the water starts looking a bit cloudy.

5. Add Security Features

Pool safety is one of the most important aspects of maintenance. These are some pool security measures that you should implement:

  • A pool light
  • A fence
  • Non-slippery paving
