DIY Wax Seals

If you’re a lover of crafts then you’ll enjoy this! These are perfect for sealing handmade letters for birthdays, unique invitations or name place cards at weddings.

Your first option is shopping for some sealing wax, brass wax stamps and a whole kit to get you going or you can do it the DIY way with these supplies:

  • Wax crayons
  • Glue gun sticks
  • Tablespoon or teaspoon (depending on the amount of wax you’re using)
  • Candles
  • Toothpick
  • Old button (metal or plastic)
  • 10cm x 2cm Wood Dowel Stick
  • Wire cutters
  • Glue gun

Method:

  1. Firstly you’ll need to prepare your wax stamp. You can use an old button (about 2-3cm in size) with a pretty design. Cut off the plastic/metal loop on the back with your wire cutters so that you have a flat surface to work with.
  2. Using your glue gun, glue the back of your button to the end of your dowel stick. Leave it to dry and your stamp is now ready to use.
  3. Remove the paper wrapped around your chosen colour crayon.
  4. Cut your crayon and glue stick into 5mm bits.
  5. Heat your teaspoon/tablespoon over your candle (the size depends on how much wax you want to melt)
  6. Add your cut-up bits of crayon and glue stick (3:1) to the spoon and mix around with a toothpick until soft
  7. Once fully melted, pour a small amount of the melted wax (about a 2cm dollop) onto your desired surface and use your stamp to firmly press down on the wax. Keep your stamp pressed onto the wax until it has cooled.
  8. Gently peel the stamp off the wax by holding the cooled wax down with your finger.
  9. TA-DA! You’ve just made your own wax seal!
  10. You can also use your glue gun and make seals the same way using the melted glue. You can add dried flowers or any small, flat trinket to the glue before you press your stamp onto the area.
