The top maintenance tips for your pool

One of the many joys of life is being able to relax and enjoy a well-kept pool! DIY Depot is here to help guide you to a sparkling clear pool all year round.

  1. Scrubbing and Skimming

Make a habit of scrubbing and skimming a part of your life, you won’t be sorry. For a truly pristine pool, scrub the walls and steps of your pool at least once a week to prevent algae build up. This will help your pool cleaner last long by not having to work as hard. Skim the surface of your pool for any fallen leaves and debris.

  • Filters

Think of your pool filter as the kidneys of your pool. They constantly work to remove impurities from water. This can remove dirt, leaves and even small toys. Ensure that you clean your filter basket by first turning off your filter. This is best to be done once a week to every 10 days. You may have to filter out more depending on how much activity your pool gets.

  • Chemicals

Don’t forget those important pool chemicals! Unbalanced pool water looks murky, irritates skin and eyes and can cause your pool to become a breeding ground for bacteria. Ideally you should test your pool water for the right pH using a testing kit before adding chemicals to your pool. If you aren’t a huge fan of using harsh chemicals, baking soda can do the job.

  • Water level

Ideally, you want your water level to be halfway up the opening of your skimmer. If it is too low, simply use a hose to add the necessary amount. Remember that adding more water to your pool may change the pH balance, so it should be checked once again once your pool is at the right level.
