Your must-have Spring checklist

As soon as Spring starts to approach, it’s always best to keep a checklist of all your home and garden maintenance jobs. With spring brings a new beginning, a fresh start. If you have those unfinished DIY projects staring at you, make the new season a reason to finish them.

Clean out your cutters:
Before we start to get high rainfall, your gutters should always be thoroughly cleaned. Unwanted debris can clog your cutters. By cleaning them out, will prevent water damage. You can simply gather the debris using garden gloves and hose down the remains. Here you will also be able to see if your gutter has any further drainage issues that need to be attended to.

Give your garden a good clean up:

Clear away old leaves and use them for composting. Prune back any old, dead or diseased trees, shrubs and flowers. Plants that have been infested with bugs need to be treated to prevent further contamination. Always cut away from yourself and use garden gloves.

Fertilise and seed your garden:

Give your garden some extra TLC with fertiliser. This will enrich the soil and promote further, healthier plant and lawn growth. Remember to keep in mind the different ratios of fertiliser. A balanced lawn fertiliser contains equal proportions of nitrogen and potassium.

Prepare your patio: Check your deck or patio of any wear and damage and do necessary repairs. Sweep decks and patios, use a pressure washer to remove remaining dirt, dust and other material. Give your braai areas a good clean out too, scrub grills and remove burnt particles with a wire brush.
