Add More Natural Light to Your Home

There is nothing better than warm sunlight streaming through your home.  Natural light can lift your mood and help save on energy!

Having large amounts of natural light in your home can greatly increase the value of your home.

There are many ways to increase natural light in your home, here are a few:

  1. Add mirrors and shiny objects.

Adding mirrors and shiny objects across from a window can double the amount of natural light, through reflection. Add glass objects, silver items, metallic finishes etc.

  • Choose a reflective colour palette.

Colours can either reflect or absorb light. Lighter colours bounce light around a room, like a mirror would. Pair a light colour with a satin or semi-gloss finish for even more reflectiveness. Remember to paint your ceiling a few shades lighter than your walls to create a larger feeling brighter room.

  • Avoid large dark items of furniture.

Darker furniture will only absorb light and make the room feel smaller.

  • Paint your window overhangs white.

Your window overhangs could be blocking natural light. Paint them white to assist with reflecting natural light into your home.

  • Install larger windows.

This is a simple effective way to increase the amount of natural light that enters your home.

  • Keep your windows clean.

This may seem simple. However, you may neglect washing your windows as it’s easy to overlook the dirt on your windows. Wipe a small area of your window with a cloth to determine how dirty they really are and if a proper clean is necessary. Clean windows will maximise the amount of light that filters through the glass.
